Simon Chappaz Paces Bobcats in 20K at Colorado Invitational

Montana State men finish second in freestyle event
(Feb. 13, 2026) – Montana State stands in fourth place after three events of the Colorado Invitational ski meet, which completed the 20K Freestyle race on Friday.
Four Bobcats finished in the top 15 of the Nordic competition at Steamboat Springs, Colorado, including three men, on Friday. The strong showing by MSU's men produced the most points on that side of the competition.
Three Bobcats finished in the top 12 in the men's race. Simon Chappaz finished second in the 20K with a mark of 57:04.7 to pace the Bobcats. Gavin Galyardt was sixth (52:42.1), Grey Barbier 12th (58:20.5) to round out MSU's points scorers. Fredrik Nilsen placed 14th (58:59.9) and Woody West 23rd (1:04:47.4) to round out the Bobcats lineup.
In the women's race, Ella Ronci finished 15th in a time of 1:15:59.4 to lead the Bobcats. Maeve MacLeod's 1:18:51.7 was good for 21st. Felicie Chappaz did not finish, and Rosie Whittington-Evans, Sabine Comeau and Ellinor Ness did not start.
The Colorado Invitational concludes with the Classic race on Saturday.
