Letter from the AD: January 2023 Edition
1/18/2023 6:30:00 PM | General
Dear Bobcats,
The spring semester is here! We are excited for classes and all campus activities to continue. But first, I must recognize our Bobcat student-athletes for one more fall semester accomplishment. I am pleased to report the academic success of our Bobcat student-athletes continues as they earned a 3.32 GPA this past fall. 82 student-athletes earned all As and 74% were over a 3.0. Our student-athletes continue to strive in and out of competition. Please join me in congratulating all our Bobcat student-athletes on their academic success!
Please help me welcome our new Bobcat volleyball head coach, Matt Houk. Coach Houk comes to MSU after nine years at the University of Minnesota and was officially introduced at a press conference this afternoon, which you can view here. We are excited to add him, his wife Jeni and children Jaeden, Cole, and Jorie to the Bobcat Family.
Join us on Friday, February 17 as we enshrine eight Bobcat athletes and one coach into the Bobcat Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2022-23 induction ceremony starts with a no-host social at 5:00 pm. Dinner begins at 6:00 and the program at 7:00, with the event held in the Strand Union Building's Joseph May Ballrooms. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
I want to congratulate Suzie Woodburn on earning her first collegiate head coaching victory as the Bobcat women's tennis team defeated Chicago State 6-1 on January 17. There are many opportunities to cheer on the Bobcat men's and women's tennis teams inside the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis center this spring. Their schedules can be found here.
Montana State University's annual Giving Day is quickly approaching: mark your calendars for 12pm on February 15 through 5pm on February 16. We have set a goal of raising $30,000 for the Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship Fund, enough to cover one full in-state scholarship. Please click here to learn more.
After their first Big Sky Conference Championship in ten years, a dominating 55-14 Brawl of the Wild win inside Bobcat Stadium, and a third straight trip to at least the FBS Semifinals, the 2023 Bobcat football season ticket renewals will begin February 1. Help us keep the record setting home winning streak intact by renewing your tickets. Watch your emails or visit msubobcats.com/tickets for more information.
MSU Ski hosted the Nordic competitions for the MSU Invitational last Friday and Saturday at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center. I want to thank the staffs at Crosscut, Bridger Ski Foundation, and Bobcat Athletics for volunteering for the events. Don't forget, the Alpine competitions for the MSU Invitational are scheduled for January 30-31 at Bridger Bowl.
Cheer on Bobcat Track and Field in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse when they host the Bobcat Challenge this Friday and Saturday. Check msubobcats.com for more information and event times.
The men's and women's basketball teams continue their seasons, and both are looking to repeat their Big Sky Championships and trips to the NCAA Tournament. The crowds inside The Brick have been outstanding and will only get better now that the students are back. Get your tickets now!
Bobcat Rodeo will host their annual Fundraiser 'Cowboys and Candlelight' on Saturday, February 25. You can click here for updates on the event and how to get tickets.
Looking ahead:

- MSU Golf kicks off their spring season February 18 at the Mountain Classic Match Play event in Palm Desert, CA.
- Tickets for the Big Sky Basketball Championships are on sale now. Click to purchase help both teams defend their tournament titles.
- Mark your calendars for the MSU Spring Rodeo April 13-16. Tickets will go on sale soon.
It's an exciting time to be a Bobcat and we can't do it without our great fanbase and donors. However, to continue our level of success, we need you more than ever. Please consider joining Bobcat Club or if you are already a member, consider increasing your gift. The accomplishments of our student-athletes don't happen by accident and are a direct result of the increased funds raised through the Bobcat Club recently. We need to keep raising the bar for them as they continue to do for us. As always, THANK YOU for your support of our programs!
It's a great day to be a Bobcat!
Leon Costello
