BOBCAT GAME DAY NOTEBOOK #2: Jared White Becomes MSU's Sixth Starter at Running Back Since 2019

Lane Sumner shelved after 159-yard breakout in opener
Bobcat freshman Jared White is scheduled to become Montana State's sixth different starting running back in the last two-plus seasons when Montana State begins its first offensive possession against Morehead State today.
White joins the starting lineup after junior Lane Sumner suffered an arm injury that shelves him this afternoon. Sumner rambled for 159 yards against McNeese in last Saturday's season opener. It was Sumner's second career 100-yard effort.
White gained 89 yards on just even carries a week ago. He is a true freshman from Frisco, Texas, who brings a strong pedigree to the Bobcat program. He was the leading rusher in his area as a senior last season. Elijah Elliott backs up White.
Senior Isaiah Ifanse, currently out with an injury, has started 17 of Montana State's last 31 games at running back. Logan Jones started eight as a senior in 2019, Sumner started the opener and two in 2019, while Elliott started a pair of games last season. DeMareus Hosey also lined up as the starting running back once in 2019.

Saturday's matchup contains a trace of history. Morehead State marks the first football opponent Montana State has faced from Kentucky. The Eagles are the third Pioneer Football League squad to visit Bobcat Stadium in the last two seasons, after the Cats topped Drake and San Diego a season ago.

The Bobcats claim 13 straight victories in Bobcat Stadium. That streak is second-longest in program history after the 16 consecutive wins at Gatton Field for the 1956-59 Bobcats.
