Wyoming Gets past Cats in Casper

In a sport rarity, the Montana State women’s tennis team traveled to Casper, Wyo., on Friday, where it dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to Wyoming at the 307 Tennis Club.
In a sport rarity, the Montana State women's tennis team traveled to Casper, Wyo., on Friday, where it dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to Wyoming at the 307 Tennis Club. The traditional season for collegiate tennis is during spring semester.
Wyoming (1-0) took the opening point winning all three doubles matches, including a 7-6 (13-11) tiebreaker decision by Ida Krause and Maria Oreshkina over Montana State's (0-1) Mirte Van Baelen and Marta Garcia-Reboredo at the top spot.
"The No. 1 doubles match was incredible," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "The No. 1 doubles match was unbelievable, and we came up just a little short losing in a tiebreaker."
The Bobcats earned its two points in singles action as Garcia-Reboredo dispatched Oreshkina 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, and JJ Chen posting a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) decision over Alyse Cormier.
"Marta had a great win at No. 1 over an opponent that had defeated her at regionals," Reeves said. "And JJ really did a nice job coming back from being down a set to win in a tiebreak.
"It was important to play such an early match," Reeves added. "We have four kids that have never experienced a dual match, so it was nice to get them this experience. Wyoming hosted an outstanding event with a big crowd, and it was a great atmosphere for our kids to witness."
Montana State plays at the Gonzaga Invitational this weekend in Spokane.
