Initiative by conference student-athletes implemented throughout the Big Sky
By: MSU Sports Information
BOZEMAN, Montana – On the recommendation of the Big Sky Conference's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and approval of its directors of athletics, league schools will not schedule required athletics-related activities on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, to allow student-athletes the opportunity to vote in this year's federal election.
Two student-athletes from each of the Big Sky's 11 full-fledged members comprise the Big Sky's committee, and each school's SAAC will work in conjunction with the Big Sky Conference office to promote voter education and registration among all student-athletes. Each varsity athletic program at Montana State is represented on the MSU SAAC.
"This initiative will allow our Bobcat student-athletes to be part of something bigger outside of their sports," said Bobcat Athletics Academic Coordinator Emily Keller, who serves as the liaison for MSU's SAAC. "It shows that our student-athletes want to be partners and advocates for change, which I hope continues to be part of the student-athlete culture here. MSU SAAC is excited and looks forward to providing voter education and engagement for all Bobcat student-athletes."
The Big Sky Conference indicated that it is encouraging and facilitating ways for each school's SAAC to develop this program into a campus-wide effort.
