A letter from Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello
Dear Bobcats,
I hope this letter continues to find you and your loved ones healthy and safe, especially as we begin the Phase I reopening process here in Montana. As most of you know, Montana State University will begin a gradual reopening this week and the athletics staff will slowly start to reoccupy some offices on campus in the coming weeks, while also continuing to work remotely when they can. I encourage you to use our athletics staff directory to contact us as the athletics facilities will remain locked during this phase. For the latest MSU campus news and updates on the COVID-19 pandemic, visit the online campus resource here.
Last week we celebrated an announcement signifying the start of construction of the Bobcat Athletic Complex. This milestone was made possible by you, our faithful Bobcat supporters and fans, that continue to answer the call. This facility will impact ALL Bobcat student-athletes and programs by supporting their academic and athletic development. In true Bobcat spirit, this facility is a bi-product of our loyal donors, coaches, student-athletes, campus and community partners. I would like to thank everyone for their help in making this game changing facility a reality.
I would like to thank our Bobcat student-athletes for their steadfast commitment to finishing this unique and trying semester with strength and perseverance. I would also like to thank the academic staff and coaches for their assistance during this time. This week marks Finals Week and I wish all Bobcat student-athletes well as they finish their academic year.
Last week we celebrated the spring sport seniors who will not be returning to MSU and did not get a proper Senior Day sendoff with a #VirtualSeniorDay. This Friday, we will be honoring all graduating Bobcat seniors. Please help us celebrate them and their accomplishments by following our social media accounts. You can also check out the latest at the2020 Spring Social Media Hub.
Earlier this spring, we made the decision to extend the football season ticket deadline to June 1 as we continue to monitor the landscape of college athletics with the NCAA and Big Sky Conference. As of now, we are planning on the Fall season continuing as scheduled. However, we understand the impacts the coronavirus has had on our communities and fans. Please let us know how we can assist you to ensure you receive your tickets. Together, we will find a way. Click here for more information.
As we eagerly look forward to the return of sports, I'm excited to announce a new live video series exclusive to our Bobcat Club members. '6 Feet Apart,' presented by the Rocking R Bar, will begin next week. This series will feature live interviews with coaches and staff each week, and include a fan question & answer segment. If you aren't yet a member of the Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship Fund, please consider joining today to support our student-athletes and gain access to exclusive perks like this. You can learn more by visiting our Bobcat Club website.
As our beautiful state begins the Phase I reopening process and we get to once again enjoy what makes Montana so special, there is a renewed sense of hope and excitement. However, we must also maintain our adherence to the CDC and our local health official's guidelines. We encourage everyone to continue to do their part by washing their hands frequently, maintaining proper social distancing, wearing a face covering when recommended and following all other guidelines. This will allow the reopening processes to continue and keep our frontline and healthcare workers safe. It will also provide us with an avenue to enjoy Bobcat Athletics on a quicker timeline.
As always, and especially during this time, we thank you for your commitment and support to not only Bobcat Athletics, but Montana State University, our community and our state. Join me and the entire Bobcat Athletics staff in the commitment to continuing to do our part to #StopTheSpread. We are in this together, and together we will prevail.
In Bobcat Spirit,
Leon M. Costello
