Letter From The AD: February 2020 Edition
2/19/2020 6:20:00 PM | General, Student Services, Student-Athletes
Dear Bobcats,
I'd like to start with a big thank you to all that donated to Montana State University and the Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship Fund during the inaugural MSU Giving Day. Over a 29-hour period, 92 donors contributed over $30,000 to the Bobcat Club. We are so thankful for your support of Bobcat Athletics.
The men's and women's basketball seasons have entered the second half of Big Sky Conference play and excitement continues to build. Conference championships and seeding in the Big Sky Conference Tournament are on the line as we enter the home stretch of the season. The Fieldhouse continues to provide a great home court advantage for both teams and I encourage you to get your tickets now and support both teams before the season is over. The women's team is back in Worthington Arena Thursday night versus Portland State and on Saturday the Cat-Griz basketball doubleheader returns to Bozeman. The atmosphere will be electric inside the Fieldhouse and you won't want to miss it. Click here to purchase your tickets today and don't forget your official WHITEOUT t-shirt for Saturday at https://shop.msubobcats.com/.
The Big Sky Conference Tournament in Boise, Idaho, is shaping up to be the best yet. Join us as both teams compete to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Click here to purchase tickets today. If you do make the trip to cheer on the Bobcats, visit the Alumni Association website or go to the Bobcat Club events page to see the details on all fan events.
The Bobcat Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony is one of the best events of the year, a night for honoring those who achieved at the highest level wearing the Blue and Gold. This year we induct All-America football players Bobby Daly and Dane Fletcher, All-America decathlete Stevie Keller, Big Sky champion wrestler and football player Wayne Purdom, two-time NCAA Champion pole vaulter Ellie (Rudy) van Swearingen, and the 1985-86 and 1986-87 men's basketball teams that won a Big Sky tournament championship and a Big Sky regular season crown. Learn more about the event here.
The Bobcat track and field program hosts its final home indoor meet this Friday before the Big Sky Conference Championships in Pocatello, Idaho. The men's and women's teams had several great performances this past weekend, competing against some of the best in the nation at the national meet site in Albuquerque as well as in Seattle.
Both Montana State tennis teams are in full swing. The Bobcat women's tennis team welcomed four newcomers to the program, and combined with four veteran players, recently knocked off Seattle U. The team battled through an arduous preseason schedule and are now ready for Big Sky Conference play. We welcomed Trey Morris as our interim men's tennis coach in the fall and he has a squad with proven veterans and talented newcomers. You can learn more about their season so far here.
The MSU alpine and nordic ski teams are currently finding success in the middle of their season and are looking to peak during the RMISA/NCAA West Regional and NCAA Championships on their home course. Several Bobcats have already found the podium (a top three finish) this season and are legitimate threats to win national championships in their disciplines.
Don't forget that MSU, along with Bridger Bowl and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center, will host the 2020 NCAA Skiing National Championships March 11-14. This is a great event to showcase our athletic department, MSU campus and Bozeman community and to witness the best skiing in the country. For more information on the 2020 NCAA Skiing Championships, click here.
This year, we celebrated the signing of nearly 30 new Bobcat football student-athletes with an evening at The Rialto in downtown Bozeman. Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Alex Singleton, an All-America for the Cats in 2014, shared his story with the fans in attendance, including his appreciation for the opportunities Montana State University brought his way. It was a special way to tie together our great football tradition while acknowledging the current success and excitement around the Bobcat football program.
With the 2019 season fresh in our minds, football season tickets are on sale NOW! Get your tickets and help us continue to make Bobcat Stadium the best home field advantage in the FCS during the 2020 season. Season tickets can be purchased here.
Spring sports are gearing up for exciting seasons. Check out MSUBobcats.com for schedules and news related to the Bobcat track and field, golf and tennis teams.
Our MSU student-athletes, coaches and athletic staff continue to reach new heights in the classroom, competition and community. However, we can't do it without you. Support these outstanding programs by joining the Bobcat Club, increasing your donation, and buying season or individual game tickets. All revenue generated from these sources supports student-athlete scholarships and operations of our entire athletic department.
