A letter from Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello
Dear Bobcats,
As the calendar has turned to October, we continue to see a rise in cases of COVID-19 across the state and country. With the help of our Bozeman Health partners and athletic training staff, Bobcat Athletics continues to follow NCAA, Big Sky and MSU health and safety recommendations and protocols to keep our student-athletes, coaches and staff as safe as we can during this time. We continue to adjust and adapt to updated information and are providing the best possible environment for student-athletes to continue their development as students, athletes and people. Even though we are not competing right now, our programs continue to work inside our facilities, preparing themselves for when that time comes. For competition to begin and to have fans in the stands, I encourage all Bobcat fans to continue to follow CDC and local guidelines by wearing a mask, social distancing and washing hands. These simple steps will help to ensure you can cheer on the Bobcats in person and keep you and your community safe. As always, the latest MSU campus news and updates on the COVID-19 pandemic can be found here. In September, Bobcat Athletics announced the #PlantTheFlag Campaign designed to raise much needed funds for the support of Bobcat student-athletes during this unprecedented time. Many of you have already donated and we are truly thankful for your continued support during these challenging times. Our annual Blue and Gold Gala – held virtually this year with no cost to attend – is an event associated with this campaign and will be held on Tuesday, November 10. Enjoy an evening of celebrating Bobcat Athletics and bidding on your favorite auction items to raise money to support Bobcat student-athlete scholarships. You will also hear from Bobcat coaches, staff and current and former student-athletes throughout the event. Join us by registering today for this free event! If you can't attend or are looking for more ways to support Bobcat student-athletes right now, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the #PlantTheFlag campaign. Last weekend our Bobcat football team ended their fall practice season with the Fall Brawl, presented by Hilton Garden Inn. If you were not able to watch the live stream on Saturday, you can watch it on demand here. While the live stream was offered for free, many of you stepped up to donate to the #PlantTheFlag campaign last week, and in a couple of days you raised more than $10,000 for student-athlete scholarships. Thank you! As we approach the spring football season, we anticipate the Big Sky Conference football schedule to be released in early November. We will immediately share the schedule as soon as it is approved. Basketball season is right around the corner, and last month the NCAA announced the men's and women's basketball seasons will begin November 25. As a result, the Big Sky Conference will be releasing conference schedules shortly. We also shared some preliminary basketball ticket information last week. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. Additionally, the NCAA and Big Sky Conference continue to provide guidance for all other sports. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. As you can see, this year has been and continues to be very fluid. I appreciate the flexibility and adaptability of our fans, student-athletes, coaches and staff during this time. It is not easy, but it's necessary given the circumstances, and we have risen to the challenge. As the Bobcat Athletic Complex's construction progress continues, I invite all of you to watch with our live webcam here. These are exciting times and we can't thank our donors enough for making this happen. You can also view our entire Athletic Masterplan for details on the project. As always, and especially during this time, we thank you for your continued commitment and support to not only Bobcat Athletics, but Montana State University, our community and our state. We can't do this with out you and appreciate our Bobcat Family. |
