BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State track and field program opens its 2019-20 indoor season on Friday, Dec. 6, by welcoming in outside competition for the Bobcat Preview. The meet opens with field events at 4 p.m. and track events start at 5 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
MSU will look forward to competing against new faces after a long fall of training to prepare for the indoor season. The Bobcat men's and women's teams will be going head-to-head against athletes from Montana, MSU Billings, Carroll College and Montana Western.
The Bobcats will have a bevy of newcomers and returners participating in Friday's meet.
"We are really excited about the student-athletes we have competing for us this year," said Lyle Weese, Montana State's director of track and field. "We expect both teams to be really strong. I think we have a great chance to compete well at the conference championships as a team."
Montana State completed the 2018-19 indoor season with its men's and women's teams earning runner-up finishes at the Big Sky Conference Championships in Bozeman on Feb. 23. The Bobcats will be highlighted by several returners that had strong years a season ago.
Nine Bobcats earned all-conference honors at the Big Sky Indoor meet last year. McKenna Ramsay made the conference podium in three events, while Drake Schneider, Noah Martin and Wyatt Thompson-Siporen did in two events apiece. Lucy Corbett, Bill Yeager, Chris Bianchini, Cameron Carroll and Alec Nehring also claimed a medal at the championships.
A number of Montana State student-athletes come back to improve upon their top 10 all-time program marks during the indoor season. Ramsay, Corbett, Trisha Carlson, Anna French, Gillian Maness, Delaney Smith, Morgan Evans and Alex Hellenberg all rank among the Bobcat bests on the women's side. Schneider, Carroll, Martin, Thompson-Siporen, Nehring, Ty Mogan, Derrick Olsen and Caleb Neth have top 10 marks on the men's team.
The Montana State track and field program is slated to host four full squad meets during the 2019-20 indoor schedule. The Bobcats open the New Year on Jan. 6 when the multi-event athletes compete in the MSU Multis Meet in Worthington Arena.
