Letter from Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello
Dear Bobcats,
It is hard to believe we've seen Finals Week pass and the 2018 Fall Commencement take place last Saturday. The end of the fall sports schedule is always an exciting time for us and this year was no exception.
The month of November opened with us hosting the inaugural Blue & Gold Gala inside Worthington Arena. On Thursday, we announced next year's Blue and Gold Gala will take place on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019. Please mark your calendars and Save the Date to join us next year.
Just over a month has passed since the Bobcat football team clinched the Great Divide Trophy for the third consecutive year, the first time they've achieved the feat in over 30 years. MSU football had the chance to compete in the FCS Playoffs and picked up its first postseason victory since 2012. I am excited about the future of our program. Make sure you check back to msubobcats.com to see the newest additions to the program and again on February 6 for more National Signing Day information.
The Bobcats' victory in Missoula also helped increase our lead in the Brawl of the Wild Series standingsto 5-1 over the University of Montana. That same day it was announced Montana State won the Can the Griz food driveby accumulating over 263,200 pounds of food and donating over $185,400 toward the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. We can't thank our community enough for supporting this great cause and helping those in need.
Mark your calendars for Hall of Fame weekend February 1-2. We will induct the 2019 Hall of Fame class on Friday night, February 1. On Saturday, February 2, we will host the Cat-Griz basketball doubleheader in Worthington Arena. Click here to purchase your tickets today.
Speaking of basketball, the men's and women's basketball teams recently completed their nonconference schedules. Big Sky Conference action for both teams starts December 29 and will conclude with the conference tournament in Boise, Idaho, from March 11-16. Both Bobcat teams have experienced some early success with the most recent being a big road win against Washington State for the men's team and a comeback victory for the women's team at home over Omaha. Join us for all the exciting action by purchasing your tickets today.
We'll continue to have a full palate of events inside Worthington Arena, with our men's and women's track and field teams also playing host to a variety of meets. Their home schedule leads the Bobcats into the Big Sky Conference Track and Field Championship which we'll be hosting Feb. 21-23.
With the holiday season in full swing, Bobcat Athletics would like to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Holiday season. We are grateful for your support and thankful to be part of the Bobcat Family.
Go Cats!
