Bobcat Women’s Tennis Team Splits Matches at Boise State

The Montana State women’s tennis team split a pair of matches defeating Lewis Clark State 7-0, before dropping a hard-fought 4-3 decision to regional power Boise State, Saturday afternoon

The Montana State women's tennis team split a pair of matches defeating Lewis Clark State 7-0, before dropping a hard-fought 4-3 decision to regional power Boise State, Saturday afternoon.

Montana State (5-3) cruised to a convincing sweep of Lewis Clark State for the second time this season, winning all matches in straight sets.

Against Boise State, MSU captured the opening doubles point winning at Nos. 1 and 2 by identical 7-6 decisions. The Broncos went up 2-1 with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, but MSU's Jessica Brycki answered back to even the score with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 over Jovana Kuljanin. BSU took Nos. 1 and 4 singles to secure the win. Bobcat senior Wanda Holopainen rallied for a 2-6, 7-6, 10-2 win over Kirsty Venter to round out the scoring.

"I am proud of our team," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "We put ourselves in position to have a big win for our program. Last year, Boise State came into Bozeman and dominated us 7-0. Today was what you love about college tennis.

"We competed incredibly hard to win the doubles point to take the initial momentum," Reeves said. "We are trying new teams and we figured out a few things. We made some great steps in singles."
