Patera will help Bobcat teams create nutrition options for peak performance and provide education and nutrition counseling for student-athletes. "We are excited to welcome Brittney to the Bobcat family," said MSU Director of Athletics Leon Costello. "Having a registered dietitian on staff allows us to enhance the championship experience for all Bobcat student-athletes. Not only will she be able to address each team's nutritional needs, she will also be able to consult each student-athlete individually, as well."
Patera comes to MSU from Seattle, where she worked with the Mercer Island High School football team in 2016 as Performance Dietitian. As UW's Sports Nutrition Fellow (2015-16) she aided student-athletes in nutrition-related recovery and injury prevention, training, and travel menus, along with serving many other roles. Prior to her time in Seattle, Patera served as Licensed Sports Dietitian at the University of Cincinnati (2014-15) and at SUNY, Buffalo as a Registered Dietitian (2013-14).
Patera earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences from Chico State in 2011, and her Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition at Buffalo in 2014. She holds certification in sports dietetics and strength and conditioning. She begins at MSU immediately.
