Bobcat Women’s Tennis Team Drops Hard-Fought 4-3 Decision at UND

“We started off slow and let things get to us,” MSU Head Coach Denise Albrecht said. “We did a nice job coming back in singles, but we came up short in two matches.”
Montana State dropped the opening doubles point and battled back in singles, before coming up short in a 4-3 loss to North Dakota, Saturday afternoon in the Choice Health and Fitness Center.
North Dakota opened the match with win at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Its No. 1 tandem of Callie Ronkowski and Lacey Sprinkel held off MSU's top duo of Laura Middel and Wanda Holopainen 7-5.
The Bobcats captured victories in the middle of the line-up as Jessica Brycki defeated Mimi Younker in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Naomi Holopainen and Angelina Philippova also posted straight set wins at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
UND won both matches that went the distance at Nos. 1 and 6. Ronkowski downed Middel 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, while Kathleen Preston handed Liana Bates a 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 setback.

Montana State will take off spring break before returning to the Bobcat Anderson Tennis Center on March 20 when it hosts Southern Utah.
