Utah State Netters Hand Bobcat Women 6-1 Setback

“Utah State beat No. 55 Brigham Young a few weeks ago and for us to almost get the doubles point and taking half of the singles matches to three sets was a super accomplishment,” MSU Head Coach Denise Albrecht said. “Jess, Liana (Bates) and Molly (Crum) all went three sets and gave us a tremendous effort.”
Utah State pulled out the opening doubles point and took five-of-six singles matches, including three that went the distance to notch a 6-1 win over Montana State, Saturday afternoon in the Bobcat Anderson Tennis Center.
The doubles point was hotly contested with USU's top dup of Lexi Turley and Kallie Sperry notching a 7-6(1) win over Laura Middel and Jessica Brycki. The Bobcats' No. 3 pairing of Angelina Philippova and Shelby Cerkovnik won MSU's lone double match downing Meghan Lyall and Amber Stuhlmann 7-5.

Philippova was MSU's lone winner in singles play, defeating Sperry 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Brycki dropped a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 decision to Nini Guensler at No. 2 singles, while USU's Sabrina Demerath downed Bates at No. 4 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. MSU's final three-set thriller went to the Aggies Maggie O'Meara, who posted a 6-7, 6-2, 10-6 victory over Crum."
