For the first time in her nine years at Montana State, Bobcat women's basketball head coach Tricia Binford will open the season on the Worthington Arena hardwood.
The Bobcats will host Cal State Northridge, a former member of the Big Sky Conference, Nov. 16, to tipoff a nine-game non-conference schedule, which includes playing at the Florida International Tournament, Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 in Miami. Aside from FIU and MSU, also participating in the tournament will be Villanova and Valparaiso.
"I'm excited for our fans to be opening at home for the first time since I've been here," Binford said. "The schedule will be tough and will be very challenging."
Following two exhibition games and the home-opener against the Matadors, the Bobcats will travel to Wyoming on Nov. 15. "Wyoming has an amazing atmosphere for women's basketball and I'm anxious to see how we can compete as a unit in that environment," Binford said.
The Bobcats will return to Worthington Arena for home games against MSU Billings, Nov. 20, and Denver, Nov. 24, before traveling to Miami for the FIU Tournament. Montana State will take a two-week break for finals, before heading to Seattle, where it will face the Redhawks on Dec. 14, and the University of Washington, Dec. 15. MSU closes its non-conference slate hosting Carroll College, Dec. 20.
"We have players that have family in both Florida and Washington," Binford said. "Playing non-conference games on the road early in the season is important in building team chemistry."
Montana State will open its 20-game Big Sky slate at Sacramento State on Jan. 2. MSU's first league home game is scheduled for Jan. 9 against Portland State. The annual Cat-Griz clashes are marked for Feb. 3 in Missoula and March 3 in Bozeman.
