New marks to reflect dynamic state of MSU sports teams
Montana State University's athletic teams have been dynamic and exciting in recent years, and Wednesday afternoon the logo representing those Bobcat squads took on those characteristics, as well.
With President Waded Cruzado, Director of Athletics Peter Fields, and the school's coaches on hand, Montana State University and Bobcat Athletics unveiled a new suite of athletic logos at Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday. Several fans and community members attended, as well.
“Our coaches and student-athletes are enjoying an era of tremendous and dynamic success, and we want our logo and marks to reflect this,” said MSU Director of Athletics Peter Fields. “Our new logo captures a feeling of action while staying true to what was originally called the Aggie spirit when this school adopted the Bobcat nickname nearly a century ago. Campus leaders then cited a blending of tradition with action, and that's what we think we captured.”
Montana State University captured the 2011-12 Big Sky Conference Presidents Cup, given to the top team in the league in combined athletic and academic performance, and has won three straight league football titles. The attention accompanying that success, particularly in television exposure and attendance increases, created this opportunity, Fields said.
“We see these new identity elements as an investment in the program,” Fields said. “They are truly unique to Montana State University and Bobcat Athletics. The timing of upgrading our logo and introducing Under Armour as our new uniform and apparel partner in the same general time frame could not have worked out better.”
In addition to the new logo, word marks and a modernized 'M' also stand as part of the re-branding effort. The entire package will be introduced by Fields and MSU President Dr. Waded Cruzado on Wednesday. Bobcat coaches will also be in attendance. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase merchandise at the event.
