The Montana State women's tennis team knocked off Western Athletic Conference foe San Jose State 5-2 at the Boise State Invitational over the weekend. In addition, the Bobcats dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 67 BSU on Saturday.
Against the Spartans, the Bobcats swept the opening doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. MSU's doubles play was highlighted by Ellie Crum and Andrea De La Torre, who cruised to an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot.
In singles action, the Bobcats received wins at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 to secure the win. Montana State clinched the match at No. 5 as De La Torre recorded a 6-4, 7-6(2) victory over SJSU's Emily Prescott.
“Anytime you can get a win over a WAC school is a big thing,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “I was really pleased with the bottom of our line-up. They battled hard and all three came away with victories.
“I was also excited to see Wena Tsan move up to No. 2 singles spot and get the win,” Albrecht said. “That win was impressive considering Wena is a true-freshman.”
Boise State captured all six singles matches in straight sets for the win on Saturday.
With the weekend split, MSU is 6-8 overall and 3-1 in Big Sky Conference action. MSU will host Montana on Tuesday at 3 p.m., before meeting Idaho State on Friday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
