Montana State freshman Ellie Crum posted a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles to lift the Bobcats to a 4-3 victory over Northern Colorado, Friday evening.

Montana State freshman Ellie Crum posted a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles to lift the Bobcats to a 4-3 victory over Northern Colorado, Friday evening.

Montana State (4-5, 2-1) got on the board first as the No. 3 doubles tandem of Crum and Andrea De La Torre posted an 8-6 win to give the Bobcats the doubles point.

“We've been struggling a little in our doubles play,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “But give our kids credit, they got the job done and earned that crucial first point.”

The Bobcats also received points at Nos. 1 and 3 singles. At the top spot, MSU's Charlotta Hjalmarsson defeated Jennifer Whateley in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-0, while freshman Paulina Lopez notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory over UNC's Elizabeth Tapia.

“We have a young team and it was nice to see them battle,” Albrecht said. “Winning the close ones will only make us that much tougher.”

MSU will play at Colorado State on Saturday night.
