J.A. “Cat” Thompson- Class of ’29- Basketball, Baseball Named college basketball’s best player of the first half century…talented All-America performer. Named as the best college basketball player of the first half century by the Helms Foundation…Joined athletes such as Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russell on the Helms’ all-time All-America team..led the Bobcats to the 1929 national title…College basketball’s “Player of the Year” in 1929…Was a two-time all-Rocky Mountain Conference pick in basketball and a standout baseball player…Scored 1,539 points in his MSU career (third on the all-time list), including the two best season totals (629 in 1928 and 597 in 1929)…Currently resides in Idaho.
