Cats head to post-season for third straight year
At the urging of Montana State head coach Rob Ash, the 2012 Bobcat football team has focused only on the next obstacle in front of it. Sunday morning, the Bobcats learned of the team's next hurdle.
MSU earned the third seed in the 2012 NCAA Division I Football Playoffs, drawing a bye and hosting a game on Saturday, December 1, at 5 pm. The Bobcats play the winner of the Stony Brook-Villanova game, played on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 1 pm MT on Stony Brook's Long Island, NY, campus.
“It's great to be seeded, and we're excited for the chance to compete for a National Championship,” Ash said. “We've said that we want to get to the point where we get to play home playoff games, and we're looking forward to playing our first game, but that's all we're looking forward to. We're in a one-game season where we have to earn the right to keep playing by winning the next game, so that's all we're concerned with – our next game.”
Ash indicated the Bobcats will follow the template used last season, when the team also earned a first-round bye then defeated New Hampshire at home. “We'll practice Tuesday and Wednesday, then dismiss the players for Thanksgiving Day and get together again Friday afternoon. Once we know who the opponent is we'll begin preparation.”
The 2012 Playoffs mark MSU's eighth trip to the NCAA Playoffs, and extends the string of consecutive Playoff appearances to three straight seasons, the most in school history. The Bobcats' 10 regular season wins is also a Bobcat best.
