Bobcat quarterback lauded for academic, athletic endeavors
DeNarius McGhee didn't quite add one of college athletics' finest honors to his growing list of awards on Thursday, but he came close.
Diverse Education named Montana State's quarterback a runner-up for the 2011 edition of the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award honoring undergraduate student-athletes who excel in the classroom, in competition, and in community service and activism. McGhee was one of 12 finalists for the men's award, and was the only FCS football player so honored.
McGhee earned Big Sky Conference MVP and Newcomer of the Year honors last fall for leading the Bobcats to the Big Sky Championship as a redshirt freshman.
