Despite dropping a 25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-13 decision to its alumni squad, Montana State volleyball coach Sara Schaub learned a lot about her team Saturday afternoon in Shroyer Gym.
Despite dropping a 25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-13 decision to its alumni squad, Montana State volleyball coach Sara Schaub learned a lot about her team Saturday afternoon in Shroyer Gym.
“First, we had a great alumni team to play against,” Schaub said. “It was an all-star line-up, with a lot of former All Big Sky performers. They showed us what it is like to compete and that is something positive we can take away from this experience.”
The Bobcats were paced in the match by Rachelle Allen and Taylar Barney with 12 kills, apiece, while Jodeen Rademacher and Chelsea Oemcke added ten each.
“Overall, the final stats look pretty good and I'm happy with our .236 hitting percentage,” Schaub said. “We got to take a look at a variety of different line-ups and this gives us a good evaluation in preparation for our opener next weekend.”
True-freshman Mackenzi Campbell stepped into the starting rotation following an ankle injury to setter Jennifer Lundquist earlier in the week. Campbell finished the match with 46 assists and two service aces.
Defensively, MSU was paced by senior libero Meghan Albiston with 15 digs, while Allen added 11 saves.
The alumni team was paced by Kim Stonehouse with ten kills, while Patti Anderson 9, Lindsay Stobbs 8, and Angela Wiebe 8 also contributed to the offense. Kamber Kelly and Kami Buettner shared setting duties.
MSU will open its regular season slate at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational next weekend in Pittsburg, Penn.
