Montana State head golf coach Leslie Spalding announced that MSU will host a fall collegiate golf tournament in Bozeman slated for September 7-8 at Riverside Golf Club.
The seven-team field will include MSU, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Utah Valley University, Memphis, Cal State-Northridge, and the University of Portland. It will be a 36-hole event with the practice round on Labor Day, Monday September 6.
"This is so exciting for us," Spalding said. "Our fans here in the Bozeman area will have a great chance to see our girls golf. We want to show off Bozeman and Montana."
The tournament used to be an annual event in Bozeman dating back to the early 1990s. The tournament was discontinued after 2002. MSU began hosting a spring tournament in the Phoenix area, the Bobcat Desert Classic, in the spring of 2004.
"It's a pretty big deal to get this tournament back," Associate Director of Athletics Dan Davies said. "All of our golf fans ever get to do is read about our team and now they will get a chance to see them play along with some other high caliber Division I programs."
Davies was the MSU golf coach when the event was first hosted in Bozeman.
"We want our girls to play in front of Montana people," Spalding said. "It makes our team really feel at home, like our team is a part of the Bobcat family."
The women's golf team was the only Bobcat team that didn't host a home event in Bozeman.
