Billings West's MacDonald Signs With MSU Track and Field

"John is a guy with a wide range of skills that will fit our program really well," Kennedy said. "This is really a big deal for us that he is coming to MSU."

MacDonald finished the 2009 track season as the runner-up at Montana state class AA track meet in the 300 hurdles at 38.24. He also placed third in the 100 at 10.83, and second in the 200 at 22.02 behind Chris Wilson, who will be playing football for MSU this fall. His 400 best of 49.27 was the third best in the state this season.

"He's a young man that can come in and give us a lot of help in the sprints and the relays," Kennedy said. "I see him focusing more on the 400 meter hurdles outdoors, but also he'll probably run in both relays as well. A guy with his sprint and hurdle credentials is someone you really like to see coming into your program."

MacDonald will join Nick Puckett in the MSU sprint ranks. Puckett, a freshman, was a conference qualifier both outdoors and indoors this season.

"Replacing Dan Johnson is not going to be easy for us, but having John come in is certainly a step in the right direction. He will give our fans a thrill on the track," Kennedy said.
